What are the best gaming websites now?

Main Post:

I gave my ps4 to my friend when I moved away, and haven't played for years bcos kid and career. But I still like to read about games. Gamespot seems to have been gutted, Kotaku is lightweight and Polygon is ok? What are actual gamers recommending these days?

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the crazy response. I've learned a lot. Here for others is a list of the reccommend outlets:

Best web sites (or software) that every gamer should know about?

Main Post:

Hey guys. Lately I've come across several pages, tools and software that either make my life easier, or are extremely useful. And I wanted to know, what else am I missing?

Do you know any website, tool or software that is so amazing or useful that every PC gamer should know about?

For now, here is my contribution:

  • Playnite - It allows you to combine all the game libraries you have in each digital store in one place. In addition, it allows you to emulate the UI of any current console.
  • Nucleus Co-op - Allows you to add a Split-Screen mode to hundreds of single-player games
  • Wayback Machine - It allows you to access any websites, messages, or applications that have been deleted.
  • SteamDB - A site that gives you access to any Steam data, such as what free games are available, when the next big discount event will be, how many active players a game has, and much more
  • Backloggd - A database with all the games, DLCs, mods of the whole story. (There are currently more than 220,000 games.) In addition, it allows you to create lists, wish list any game, create a review, etc.
  • Retroarch - All classic emulators in one place. In addition, it allows you to include mods, shaders, logos, etc

What’s a niche website or PC based game you play?

Main Post:

I was inspired by a recent post that reminded me of neopets and other website based games like that. It got me thinking about what other obscure or seemingly obsolete games/websites are out there or fit that kind of vibe/genre so feel free to share any niche/nostalgic games you play for the PC!

Top Comment: Mine are Howrse - a website where you can buy, train and breed horses - and the Petz (or Catz and Dogz) games - an old PC game from my childhood where you can adopt, care for and breed various cats and dogs! For me, both are pretty niche and super nostalgic of my childhood and I still enjoy them today!

What is the most reputable and unbiased game review website?

Main Post:

As the title says. I’m not a huge gamer. My new laptop won’t show up before the game is released. I was planning on glancing at the scores before purchasing. What’s best for reviews and news?

Top Comment: I would recommend gameranx on youtube, they always point out the pros and cons and show some gameplay too. Most of the reviewers do though but I like gameranx's style.

Which website is best for cracked games?

Main Post:

I am new gamer and I have an Asus Rog Zephyrus M16 gaming laptop. My friend told me about Steamunlocked.pro and I used it to get FIFA 18 but he also told me that there is a chance of there being a virus in the game files. Since I only had windows security in my laptop I was hesitant to download any other cracked game. So, I wanted yall to tell me the best website for downloading cracked games and also which website has great variety while being safe.

Top Comment: Steamunlocked isnt safe. Dont use it

Gaming websites and resources?

Main Post:

What are the gaming resources, like websites, that you rely on that other folks might not be aware of? Here are mine:

IsThereAnyDeal.com for finding current best price and checking historical low prices.

HowLongToBeat.com for when I'm in the mood for a 10 hour game but not a 100 hour game (or vice versa). Takes some tweaking to figure out what category to pay attention to, though. Turns out I am a sloooooow gamer, so I mostly look at "Main + Extras" in the "Leisure" category

Augmented Steam plug-in for Chrome. Adds lots of info to Steam game pages in browser (including info from the two websites above), plus other upgrades to the site.

BeforeIPlay.com for (generally) low- or no-spoiler tips and tricks when beginning a new game.

Looking forward to hearing about yours! Cross-posting to r/GirlGamers to get more recs. :)

Top Comment: Some of the larger subs have a ton of resources as well on their info pages. It depends on what you're looking for. https://www.dekudeals.com/ for finding cheaper Switch Games. https://www.protondb.com/ for checking Steam Deck compatibility https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Home to find workarounds for bug fixes

Trustworthy sites for games?

Main Post:

Hey, I’m fairly new to PC gaming. I posted a similar question about CDkeys. I’ve bought from them a couple times without issue. I’ve also heard that fanatical is good. Are there any other legit/trustworthy website for game keys beside these 2?

Top Comment: If you go to cheapdigitaldownload.com , you will see most of the big players. If they have hundreds of reviews and ~4 stars, they'll be trustworthy. Edit: also Xbox Gamepass for PC will give you inexpensive access to a ton of games, including day one access to Starfield coming up

Best Website for Gaming News?

Main Post:

I've been going to Kotaku for a very long time but strongly dislike their new direction, especially their removal of comments to avoid criticism.

Top Comment: Edge Magazine is peak gaming journalism. And yes, I mean “journalism,” not just listicles and clickbait. It’s awesome!

Best website for rating games?

Main Post:

Is there even such a thing, things like IMDB for movies where you can rate out of 10 and keep a log, obviously you can rate on steam and stuff but that's either yes or no and there's no list where you can sort by rating etc, if not, I'm surprised someone hasn't made one yet!

Top Comment: I'm not sure which website is the best, but here are some of the most popular websites: Metacritic, HowLongToBeat, Backloggd, Glitchwave, IGDB, Grouvee All of these websites let you rate games, and view a list of the highest rated games. Metacritic has two lists, one for critics and one for users. If you want to see the top rated games on Steam, you can use either steamdb.info or steam250.com (they use different formulas, so that's why the lists aren't the same).
